Lady Gaga’s Marry the Night Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Gonna Marry the Night…
It’s Me Again!

I have been waiting for Lady Gaga’s full video for Marry the Night to come out for weeks. I saw the prelude and then read some teasers where she said it was basically about the worst day of her life: when Island Def Jam Records dropped her. In the prelude, she says that the account in the video is not reality–because she despises reality. I love this!!! In the video, she is a ballet dancer who undergoes some sort of surgery–costing her her spot in a dance company. At first, she FREAKS out–pouring Cheerios all over her naked body and thrashing around in her tub as she dyes her hair mint green. (Can I just say that her body is AMAZING??!!) So, anyway, next she is dangling feet upwards in a Trans Am after a car crash. She does what any respectable girl would do: she puts on her amazingly red lipstick, straps on her Louboutins and does it all over again. The video ends with her as the Gaga we see now, after scoring a meeting with Interscope Records.

Lady Gaga Marry the Night Inspired EyeOkay, so let's get on with my tutorial. I know that I said I wasn't going to use screen shots--but just hear me out on this one. I got so excited about the eyeliner she was wearing in the scenes in her apartment that I immediately ran to my room and attempted it. When I got it looking halfway decent, I just started filming--and ended up with the tutorial you can see Here. I cannot say I am overly happy with it, you guys who follow me know how much of a perfectionist I am. With this one, I felt that getting the video out sooner rather than later might be better--so I chose not to reshoot it. I was also using a different lighting and camera setup, which I will also not be using again. I don't know--something about this tutorial doesn't sit well with me. I may film the other great eye look from this video, a double-wing eyeliner and full-on peach/orange lip look. Would you like to see this? Please let me know, and I would also really like to hear your thoughts about the way this tutorial turned out. I am honestly prepared for criticism on this one, and if that's what YouTube brings--so be it. This look was so fun to wear and try to recreate that it's completely worth it. If nothing else, the outtakes I have included are worth checking out! haha Have a Yummy Day!

Oh–and thank you for taking time out of your day to come and hang with me. If you have a blog I can check out, please comment below because I would love to check it out, too! ;) Cookie

November

Neutral Teal Cut Crease
Hello, Hello!

Wow, November flew right by! I’m sorry I have been so terrible about updating–I have been so busy with making videos and things. I am telling you–I am so fired up right now! There are so many things I want to do for you all on YouTube, it is ridiculous!

My last post was on this look, a Lady Gaga-esque Neutral Cut Crease. I love this look so much, I had to post some more photos hahaha!

Closed-Eye View

I now (finally) have a phone with great photo capabilities, so I can post pictures other than what you see in my videos. Before now, I have just used still shots from each video–but I like how this gives a little something different for blogging. I have a really great camera, a Canon Rebel XT, but it doesn’t show me in my viewfinder what I am about to snap! How stupid is that? You hear me, Canon???!!! heh But now that I have the iPhone, I will probably just post photos like this of each tutorial. If you prefer the still shots from my videos, please leave me a comment so I will know. I just think this is kinda nice…

Okay! Now, let’s move on to the reason for this super-belated blog post!

Wet N Wild Blues-Everyday Eye Tutorial

A few weeks ago, I started a little mini-series (you know how much I love those…) on breaking makeup rules. I started off with an Everyday Eye Tutorial showing how I usually apply my eye makeup. To show that this look works with just about any color combination, I decided to use the blue/gold stunner from Wet N Wild’s Greed Palette on my lid and Sephora’s My Favorite Jeans in my crease. I applied Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeshadow pencil in Sin as a base and highlight. I love the way this looks with my blue scrubs…

Pardon the Workday Face Grease!

It’s so fun playing with makeup, and since I do wear scrubs for work I like to really go bold with my eyes. So, that’s how this whole mini-series started. I have been breaking common makeup rules lately, and I decided to do a few videos showing you how I like to mix things up.

Pinky Purple Eye Look

The second video in this series was a Pinky Purple Eye Tutorial. I just love the look of pinks and purples blended together. I don’t know if you can see it, but these scrubs have purple and pink butterflies all over them. The Wet n Wild Baking a Cake Palette is perfectly coordinated with these scrubs, so it is getting a LOT of use. I decided to apply a shimmery blush and break the rule of having a light inner corner highlight in this tutorial, too. Have you ever heard of the “Tulip Method” for applying eyeshadow? Basically, you create the shape of a tulip on your eyelid: light center of lid with two dark splashes of color on each side. I love love love that look, and I did a loose tulip in this tutorial. If you would like to see a more “traditional” tulip, please let me know ;)

Now, onto the last tutorial–it is definitely my favorite.

I Love this Eyeshadow Shape so Much I Cannot Stand It!Darkened Inner Crease

In this Darkened Inner Crease Eye Tutorial, we really mix things up. I don’t know about you, but I have heard over and over again “You MUST have a light inner corner!” This is especially taught when you have smaller eyes, like me. So, I decided that rules are made to be broken–and here are my results!

What do you think???

I promise promise promise to be better about blogging. I will even make it a New Year’s Resolution come early ;) To be honest, when I first began this it was just going to be a place to get more information on my YouTube beauty videos–but now I am thinking I will actually do stuff on here that doesn’t show up on my YouTube channel. An example would be product reviews. I get so into doing makeup tutorials that the new products I purchase never seem to show up unless I use them in tutorials. This will be a perfect place to show you new items, and I promise to start doing reviews on here using my original points system. It was a great idea, and I started with Salma Hayek’s Nuance Smokey Quad–and then I got so interested in filming tutorials that it fell by the wayside. So, I am definitely going to bring those back and even do some Face of the Day and Outfit of the Day photo entries. Do you want to see me rocking my scrubs?? heh Just let me know!

As always, I am so very grateful that you took time out of your day/night to spend a moment with me. I hope that you will check out my YouTube Channel and subscribe so you can get every video as it comes out.

One more thing! Here is the link for my November Favorites video! I got a lot of new (wonderful) goodies this month for my birthday, and I will be back soon to show them all to you.

What’s on your Christmas List?

Jungle Woman

Are You Ready to Go Into the Wild?

Heh

I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged, I have just been so crazy busy filming/editing/uploading YouTube videos. I am having so much fun right now, it’s ridiculous!

So, what have I been uploading? Let’s work in the reverse order, since I love my latest tutorial so much. I called it “Jungle Woman” when I was saving it, but that didn’t feel descriptive enough–so I just went with Neutral Cut Crease with Teal Eyeshadow Tutorial. It IS a Neutral Cut Crease with Teal, but it is also quite a bit “Jungle Woman”. LOL It is not for wimps! This look will definitely get you noticed, trust me. I wore it to Taco Bell here in Sebring, with hilarious results. Just in case you have never been to Sebring *and I don’t blame you a bit!*, for about six months out of the year we double in population–due to all the “snowbirds” (a loving phrase used to describe old people that flock down to Florida for the winter months) coming down. So, of course, the roads get clogged and lines are long at places like Taco Bell ;) I got a LOT of strange looks, which I love–but if you don’t like that sort of attention, I highly suggest you skip this look! Well, you know, after you watch the video and admire my creativity haha

A More Wearable Look?

If you are not into being a Jungle Woman, might I suggest this requested Burgundy Look? One of my subscribers, a sweetheart named Joanna, asked me to do a burgundy eyeshadow tutorial. When I asked, she said that she enjoys more wearable looks, so I decided to do a full face makeup tutorial featuring burgundy and gold fall colors. I actually stunned myself with this one! Look at me, I am gorgeous! Thank you, Joanna–your suggestion made me look fantastic hahaha I have never used burgundy before, believe it or not, and so this was a ton of fun to experiment with!

I’m also sporting this look in my October Favorites video, which is actually a combination video of (of course) my October Loves and a Swap Haul that came from my new friend, Rebecca. Man, this girl has FANTASTIC TASTE! I really suggest you check out her Blog because if it is anything like the stuff she sent over to me, I am bookmarking it ;) Can I just say how lucky you ladies are over in the UK??? You guys have Sleek and Max Factor. In fact, I don’t know how I am going to go back to American mascaras now that I have Max Factor 2000 Calorie! It is amazing! I need to do what I did with that L’oreal False Fiber and show some Before/After photos of this stuff, it is unreal!

So, what is coming?

So many, many things! I have been filming and editing like crazy, and all that’s left for me to do is upload now. I have a few Tags that I’ve done, and I am sure they will be up any day now. If you enjoyed my latest (Jungle Woman haha) tutorial and want to see a full list of products, I will be happy to do that for you–just let me know.

Meoooow!

Until Then, Keep Smiling!

Two Part Peacock Tutorial

Feelin' Peacocky?

Happy Friday!

How’s it going? I am having a lovely night, and I hope that you are, too!

So, I am up to 103 Subscribers! Yay! That’s so awesome–and it means that I FINALLY get to give-away all the groovy products I have been sitting on for months. I have been waiting and waiting to send somebody all this cool stuff–Kleancolor eyeshadows, Hard Candy Eye Defs and Gloss Pencils, L’oreal and Covergirl Mascaras, OneSweep Blushes–oh my!

My son, Nathan, is six years old. I think that he is the most amazing kid. When it came to choosing a winner for the Giveaway, I decided to let him choose because there was no way I was going to do it. I have been getting to know so many of my viewers both in comments/messages over YouTube and also on Twitter, it would just be sort of weird to choose. I mean, a part of me would want to choose a lovely that I feel is cool–and then the other part would want to ignore those people because it would be like cheating, you know? So, instead of writing 103 names down and choosing from a hat (OMG even at the thought!), I decided to let Nathan point to the winner. So, that’s what we did–and I have to tell you just how great this turned out. Nathan chose a 13 year old girl, her name is beverlyheld13 on YouTube, and you should be checking her out! She does great hauls and makeup/fashion videos–and she has really overcome a lot of challenges. Congrats, Beverly! I really hope that you enjoy this stuff, you sure deserve it! I can’t wait to see what you do with everything!

Okay…so onto this whole tutorial deal.

Pre-Peacock

So, I have been wearing this teal/gold color combo like its going out of style. I love gold eyeshadow in the inner corner, and I am always looking for interesting ways to wear animal prints–so this look was a fusion of two things that I love. I filmed several versions of this tutorial before Halloween, but every time I sat down to edit them I just wasn’t feelin’ it. The feathers either looked too big, too straight up and down, or too sloppy. Can I just say how hard it is to do eye makeup while filming?! LOL But anyway, I refused to give up. Finally, on October 30 I got it (pretty) right. When I was editing it, I made the decision to make it into two videos so that viewers who are not as adventurous (read: crazy) could just learn the beautiful teal and gold look.

This look was created using Wet N Wild Color Icon palettes in Vanity (Golds) and Bake-Off Contest (Blues), along with Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadows (Teals). The eyeliners are Jordana, Maybelline, and Hard Candy. I also applied mascara (Max Factor 2000 Calorie) to complete the look. Guess what I used to prime my lids? LOL You guessed NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil, didn’t you? Heh, you would be right if you did! ;)

Here is the Link for the First Video: When Wet N Wild & Inglot Intertwine – Part One – Eye Makeup Tutorial

And Here is the Link for Part Two: Peacock Crease – Part Two- Eye Makeup Tutorial

In this second tutorial, I show you how to map out and create these metallic gold peacock feathers that dance happily across the crease. I seriously wore this look at least ten times last month, which is a first for me–that’s how much I loved it. I didn’t even bother to change products or colors. The only change between any of the filmings was that I was originally using a liquid Wet N Wild Liquid Liner. I decided it dried too shiny, and I loved the more accurate precision of the Physician’s Formula Eye Booster Liner in Brown. Man, I love that little eyeliner pen. When I do swaps, I ALWAYS include one–usually in Ultra Black because it is shiny, something unusual in a liquid liner. Ok, sorry for the detour! haha The way to create this look is to first map out the general shapes using brown liquid liner. Then you go over with the gold, in this case Gold Rush Beauty Rush by Victoria’s Secret liquid liner. I used white eyeliner pencil by Wet N Wild, Glitter Rocks Pencil from Jordana, and Flip Side Liquid Eyeliner from Hard Candy to do the center of the feathers. Then I added two sets of lashes, just for fun ;) The first set was Natural by Revlon, applied with Revlon Lash Adhesive. The second set was Ardell 305 Half Lashes. I originally used feathers for the second pair, the same way that I did in the other Peacock Tutorial (the one inspired by Cora, vintageortacky on YouTube)–but I had already thrown them out by the time I got this look right. I thought I would find some more at the Halloween store where I originally found them, but I was wrong :( Oh well, I still think it turned out pretty well!

What do you think???

Karyn’s Video, Bobbie Ross, and Xsparkage Guest Look!

01 Nov 2011 Leave a Comment

Happy Halloween!

Hope you had a Happy Halloween, Lovely!

I sure creeped myself (and all my family and friends, to boot!) this year. I dressed up as Bobbie Ross in a playful tribute to Bob Ross, the famously calm painter. Think “Happy Little Trees”… LOL

So creepy, right?

I filmed a Bob Ross Tribute Makeup Tutorial, after Heather (Sokolum79 on YouTube, check her out for even more creep-tacular tutorials…) tweeted that I was the “Bob Ross of Makeup”. LOL! Its so funny–because its so true! I don’t know why I am always so Bob Ross Calm in all my tutorials. Its like I flip into “teacher mode” or something…

Ok, so one more for the road…

Like My Fro--or My Beard Best?

HAHAHAHAHAHA~ Ok, now time for something a little more serious.

Meet My Friend, Karyn

The video that I have been talking about all month is finally out! Yay!

Karyn, my amazingly positive and sweet friend, has been through the ringer. About a year ago now, I think, she found out that she had bilateral breast cancer. =( She’s since had a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation–and almost the entire time with that same beautiful smile on her face. She is such an amazing person, and I knew that I wanted to do something special for her on my channel during the month of October. Originally, I hoped to film a makeup tutorial using all pink–but when she told me about ‘Look Good, Feel Better’-a division of the American Cancer Society that helps women, men, and children find ways to look and feel just a little better while undergoing all sorts of cancer treatments–I knew that I had to do something that would support this wonderful cause.

When YouTube invited me to monetize a few days later (isn’t it funny how things work?), I decided right away that all proceeds from my videos would be donated to this amazing program. I saw so many amazing all-pink looks coming out for the month, and I decided I would instead like to sit down with Karyn and shoot a video describing her personal story of what ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ meant to her. There were a few scheduling problems, to be sure, but on Sunday we finally managed to get it done–and I am so happy to now be able to share it with you! Karyn is a natural, I am telling you–she needs her very own channel. In her video, she tells you all about a makeup class she took part in, and then we show you all of the amazing beauty products that were donated and given to her. The lighting is not perfect, but I know that you will forgive us since its for charity and all ;) Anyway, please please please watch this video! I would truly appreciate it, and also know that every single video you watch on my channel (except a few starring my little boy, I was thinking that would be kinda weird to monetize a video with him in it, kinda exploitive…) will help out this very worthy cause. I have learned through Karyn’s experience that cancer is more than just a physical situation–there is so much emotional stress involved: losing not just your hair on your head, but also your eyebrows and eyelashes and everything else…dryness all over, peeling/dry skin, it goes on and on. Its comforting to know that there are organizations out there that focus on this part of the battle.

Ok, so pleading over with. I only have this one last thing to share with you…

Vivid Blue Cut Crease

Thank you so very much to Leesha, who is Xsparkage on YouTube. You already knew that, didn’t you??? Anyway, Leesha chose my Vivid Blue Cut Crease Tutorial for Small Eyes as her Guest Look this week! Joy! I am so incredibly excited about this, and the comments have been so kind from everybody that’s been seeing it.

So, more people are finding out about me–which is so nice. I am almost at 100 Subscribers! Yay! When that magical moment happens, I will be announcing on my channel and on here who my 100 Sub Giveaway winner is! Just think, if you subscribe, it could be you! What am I giving away, you ask? All kinds of stuff! Kleancolors stuff featured in my last haul, MAC and Sephora goodies–I’m telling you, its worth subbing for… ;)

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Peacock Masquerade-Inspired by Vintageortacky-Eye Tutorial

23 Oct 2011 Leave a Comment

A Little Love Letter to Cora

I almost said “Hey Guys and Dolls!”, but I didn’t want to me all that much more of a Creeper ;)

Hello, everyone! The “Bob Ross of Makeup” (according to my friend Heather, Sokolum79 on YouTube) is here again with another makeup tutorial inspired by one of my favorite (actually my one VERY favorite) YouTube Beauty Gurus, Vintageortacky.

(just ignore all those grey hairs...)

Watch My Latest Tutorial, Peacock Masquerade-Inspired by Vintageortacky, HERE!

Okay, so now we can discuss. I always knew that I was going to make a tribute video for Cora, and I can’t quite remember why I didn’t just do it first…oh wait, yes! It was because Wayne Goss’ tutorial covered the full face, and that seemed like a great place to start. I love Wayne, and I love a ton of other YouTubers, but Cora is just special.

The first YouTube video I ever saw of hers was back in 2009, I believe. I was looking to do the new craze, the Snooki “poof”–and I stumbled upon this beautiful girl with purple hair who taught me how to do it. I remember thinking how much she reminded me of my friend Alicia, and maybe that’s part of the reason she stuck out in my mind. I had no idea, however, that she was a makeup guru. It was not until I saw a news story out of our local affiliate in Tampa about a beautiful girl who taught makeup (named Michelle Phan) that I even knew of ANYONE teaching makeup on YouTube. What a novel thought! I never learned how to apply makeup growing up–my Mom was not interested in it at all when I was a teen and I had horrible acneic/greasemonkey skin. So, I learned on YouTube…

Thanks, YouTube!

I was watching a random tutorial one day when I saw a related video featuring Sailor Moon characters. The makeup was much more bright and colorful than anything I had ever seen–and then I realized it was the same stylish girl who taught me the “poof”! Score! I subscribed–and like I often do, I watched every video on her channel. I love doing that, do you? I really love watching from the first video to the last to see how the guru evolves, improves, etc. Cora is so…fun! She is super-talented, of course–but I love how she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She is comfortable in her own skin, and she also really encourages all of us to be ourselves. I have learned so many things from her: cut creasing, how to properly wear lip products, concealing, blending (you name it, really). She is also very forthright in her opinions, which I respect in a guru. Like most popular gurus, she does receive and review/use free products–but I have never once felt like it was fake, untruthful, or forced on me. And where some gurus tend to be boxed in recently, or tied to certain brands and products which can stifle creativity, Cora just keeps getting better. Anyway, I could talk to you all day about what’s wonderful about her–but instead, I will just link to her original version of Peacock Masquerade so you can decide for yourself ;)

Here are all the Products I Used:

-NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk *applied with Sonia Kashuk Synthetic Crease Brush*

- Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner in Black, Physician’s Formula Eye Booster Liquid Eyeliner in Super Black

- ELF Eyeshadow Brush, Maybelline EyeStudio Forest Fury, Inglot AMC 59, Bed Head Cyberoptics Green, Sally Girl Dark Green, Milani Teal Had Me at Hello, Maybelline EyeStudio Sapphire Siren, Sonia Kashuk Medium Eyeshadow Brush, Kat Von D Metal Orchestra, Up and Up (Target brand) Crease Brush,Bed Head Cyberoptics Purple, Sephora Single Eyeshadow in Tango Night, Sigma E40 Blending Brush

- Feather Lashes from Spirit Halloween (note: these are faux, I made sure before applying since Cora is adamantly and rightly against animal creulty/testing), Revlon Grow Luscious Eyeliner Pencil in Onyx, Benefit They’re Real Mascara, Teal Rhinestones (purchased at Michael’s)

- On my face: Dinair Airbrush Waterbased Foundation in Natural Beige, ELF Translucent Mattifying Compact Powder

- On my lips: Milani Lip Flash in Flashy, Jordana Lipshine in Watermelon Juice

So, I hope that you are enjoying these tutorials paying homage to my favorite Gurus on YouTube. They have been a blast to create, and I have a few more coming. Before that, though, I will be filming the video I teased in a previous post–the one with my lovely friend Karyn for the American Cancer Society. We have been waiting until she is completely finished with radiation–and her last treatment is tomorrow! I am so happy that she will be finished and on her way back to total health. As soon as she is ready, we will get together for this very special video. I am so excited about it!

I also have an original peacock look coming up. I have been perfecting it for a few weeks now, and I am hoping to get it done sometime this week. I also have other odds-n-ends to catch up on, swatches and things–and I want to do a review of the new Wet N Wild Limited Edition Baked Eyeshadows I recently bought. Fantastic colors, even better price! Ahhhh, so much to do!

One last thing…

Thank you so much, Beautylish, for featuring my video about Rockin’ the Metallic Trend this weekend on the front page of your site. There was some negative feedback from it, from stating that it lacked clarity (and here I thought I was always over-explaining things!) to calling me an amateur. Well, hmmm. I am sort of an amateur, I guess. I am pretty new to YouTube, and there are still plenty of things I am working on! I got really upset about it yesterday, but then I took an honest look at the video–and it wasn’t perfect. I am not yet on the level of a lot of the gurus on YouTube, I am still on the D-List, ya know? But every time I do a video, I improve–and I know that’s what really counts. Go back and watch any great guru–they all started out just like me. That’s what moves me forward, knowing that as time passes and I get better I will become on par with people like Heather and Cora (hopefully!). Any negative comments or tweets will only propel me faster–and every subscriber and kind person that enjoys my work only makes me want to work that much harder. I am now sitting at 80 subscribers! Wow! Thank you so very much, everyone!

Today, Featured on Beautylish!!!! Plus, the Missing Tutorial

22 Oct 2011 Leave a Comment

Hello, Hello!

Today is a very special day, Jasmine from Beautylish contacted me and told me that they were going to feature my Navy, Gunmetal, and Glitter–Rock the Metallic Trend Tutorial on their site–and today is the day! What’s even more special about that is that today is the Beauty Social, out in Cali, and I think a lot of people are going to check out Beautylish that may have never seen it before. Plus, its a Saturday! I am so stoked, and I am going to be honest with you–I cried like a little baby when I got her email. What a dork, huh? It was just…its such an honor. People like Cora (vintageortacky on YT), Leesha (xsparkage on YT), and Katherine (wildkatmakeup on YT) are meant for that thing…but me??? I am so new to all of this, and I just couldn’t believe it. I hope that people see it–and I hope that they enjoy it! haha That would suck, if nobody watched it! LOL The image YouTube picked really sucks. LOL

Ok, so now on to the missing tutorial.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That picture cracks me up. Its basically the only still shot I can find on my latest tutorial, the second in my two-part miniseries on smokey eyes. This is the Smoldering Brown and Gold Nighttime Smokey Eye video, and I am so glad that it is finally uploaded. It took so many tries to get this look just right, mainly because the eye quad I was using isn’t the most pigmented thing in the world–and the colors are all pretty similar. Seeing as I have already made a Crap Palette Eye Tutorial, and I already promised my viewers in the first part that I would use the same palette in the second tutorial (and I am obsessive anyway, determined to make it work), I worked it out. I would usually never spend this many hours on a concept, but I just couldn’t let it go. Those of you who know me “in real life” know I am like that, it’s usually very good as I am a very determined person, but sometimes I stress myself out with it a little too much! Anyway, the past is the past. Its up now, and its all good. I will get some swatches and close-ups on here ASAP.

We just adoped a new puppy dog, his name is Hank and he is a pug. I am so happy about him. I miss my first pug, Pop Tart, dearly–and even though they are not the same, he reminds me of him in a way. So now we have two rescued dogs, Frank and Hank. I will add a picture of them together once the dust settles. I have already bathed the new dog, Hank, once–but I am off to do it again. He was at Animal Control here in Sebring, so there is no telling what he went through (or what he rolled around in haha). He stinks. LOL Hank the Stank ;)

Ok, I am off to get lunch for the kids and then to re-create Cora’s Peacock Mask. I am so excited! Have you seen it yet??? Here is a link if not, because its amazing. I am gonna play around with products I have and see what I come up with. If I get it right, it will be my next inspired tutorial–so I will keep you posted!

Pork and Beans,
